Another month of summer...

Well, summer is officially over. Kids are back in school, the leaves are falling off of the trees, and the air is starting to feel crisp. Although I LOVE summer, I also really love the Fall. I love the changing colors of the leaves, the smell of apple betty baking, celebrating my kids birthdays, and dressing up for Halloween. I love it all. If I could have Fall with out the promise of winter, I would be 100% happy. It is just that I know that Fall means that winter IS on its heels and that, with out a doubt, makes me anxious every year. I am NOT a winter person. I like the white, fluffy stuff for about a week and then I start to feel enclosed and chilled to the bone.

Colorado winters "aren't that bad". I know, I know. People never cease to tell me that every year. I even know that first hand after surviving an interminable winter in Rexburg, Idaho. But, being raised in southern California for the first 18 years of my life just kind of did a number on me and if I can't wear flip flops outside, than that is too much winter for me. So, what is a gal to do to survive another winter? Buy another month of summer, of course. And, that is exactly what I just did. I can't do this every winter, in fact, I will probably never do this again, or at least not for many, many more years. But, this is an opportunity that we just couldn't pass up. So, when January arrives, I'll be saying "adios" for a month and heading down south to Chile to spend a month with my parents and with Blaine's parents. Of course, Blaine and the kids are coming, too. I'd rather freeze in the snow WITH my family than bask in the Chilean summer sun with out them.

We had actually planned this trip for last Christmas. But, instead we were blessed with Ezra and so we postponed it to this year. Thanks to award travel miles and free lodging at my parent's Chilean home, this will actually be an affordable trip. So, although winter is coming, I'm not too worried about it this year because I just bought myself another month of summer! How great is that?!?

Lucky you! I feel exactly the same way you do about the whole fall/winter thing... I would enjoy fall so much more if it didn't mean winter was on its way! Last year was my first "real" winter, and I'm not looking forward to another one. How great that you get another month of summer this year! :)

A month will be a nice visit! Especially since it won't involve snow, shoveling, or COLD!!

I love your blog book and I'm jealous about Chile. We are still going to try, but I doubt we can afford to go unless you want to watch my kids for me for a week!!! Doesn't that sound fun?!?!?
